Salzburg, the city named after the naatural resource (salt) that made it a powerful state during the Middle Ages. Largely "unknown" until the early 60's, the Hollywood movie "Sound of Music" put this beautiful medieval town on the "Grand European" itinerary. Each year hundreds of thousands flock to this town to walk in the steps of it's most famous son - Mozart - attend performances at the annual Salzburg Festival and see locales used in the filming of "Sound of Music". There is so much to see and do in Salzburg that you should allow yourself at least 3 days.
