Day 01 Arrive Vienna
Private transfer between airport or rail station to your hotel. “Welcome Drink” with your Tour Manager followed by dinner in the hotel or a local restaurant. (D)
Day 02 Vienna
A guided tour around the ‘old city” with a visit to Schonbrunn Palace. A guided tour of some of the state apartments will be followed by some free time to explore the beautiful gardens. The afternoon and evening are at leisure. Your Tour Director can offer suggestions for sightseeing and restaurants. (B)
Day 03 Vienna to Graz (193kms)
After a leisurely breakfast, depart for the south of Austria and the city of Graz. Once a last bastion of defence against the Ottoman empire, the city is steeped in history and tradition. After check-in at your hotel a local guide will take you on a walking tour of the historic old town district. You will then have free time to browse the commercial district of visit the Clock Tower. Dinner at a local restaurant this evening. (B,D)
Day 04 Graz to Klagenfurt to Lake Bled (222kms)
Travel from the east of the country toward the southern central region, a stop will be made in Klagenfurt near beautiful Lake Worther (Woerthersee). A short tour of the historic old town, free time for lunch then it’s on to Slovenia and the idyllic town of Bled, on the banks of the lake of the same name. Afternoon check-in at your hotel with free time to explore this quaint village. Dinner will be taken in a local restaurant. (B,D)
Day 06 Bled
After breakfast your Tour Manager will take you by local “pletna” boat to Slovenia’s only island. Here you can climb the 99 steps said to bring good luck, and also visit the church and ring it’s infamous bell - also said to bring luck and a return to Bled. The afternoon at leisure to walk the lake, take the tourist train, or visit nearby Vintgar Gorge for a spectacular 1.6km walk through the gorge following the course of the Radovna River (the walk back is along the same route - so roundtrip of 3.2kms). The evening is at leisure to try a local restaurant of your choosing. (B)
Day 07 Bled - Ljubljana - Bled (110kms)
The country’s capital is only a 55kms drove from Bled. Here you will have a short tour of the river district, then free time for lunch or to visit the castle for panoramic views of the city and surrounding countryside. Afternoon return to Bled for free time or perhaps use the hotel’s wellness facilities. The Tour Manager will again arrange the evening meal at a local restaurant. (B,D)
Day 08 Bled to Villach to Salzburg (240kms)
After breakfast head back into Austria - with a short stop in the town of Villach. Time here to wander the lively pedestrian zone, then continue on the fast motorway toward the Sound of Music City - Salzburg. Afternoon check-in at your hotel. The evening meal will be taken at a local restaurant. (B,D)
Day 09 Salzburg
This morning there will be a guided walking tour of the historic old town district, showing you the Cathedral, Mozart’s birthplace and the fortress of Hohensalzburg. After lunch, a tour to the Lakes District will include the beautiful villages of Mondsee and St. Gilgen. This evening we attend a Mozart Dinner Concert in the baroquesaal of St. Peterskeller restaurant. (B,D)
Day 10 Salzburg - Kitzbuehel - Seefeld (210kms)
Leaving Salzburg we drive into the heart of the Austrian Alps, known for picturesque farming villages and world-renowned ski resorts. A stop will be made in the resort of Kitzbuehel, where you have free time to wander the pedestrian area and find a nice place for lunch. In the afternoon continue toward Innsbruck then start the climb to the tranquil village of Seefeld, located at 1250m above sea level and surrounded by the Austrian Alps. Check-in at your hotel will be followed by the evening meal in the hotel’s restaurant. (B,D)
Day 11 Seefeld - Innsbruck - Seefeld (50kms)
After a leisurely breakfast you will travel down to the Inn Valley and the city of Innsbruck. Your Tour Manager will take you on a walking tour of the historic “old town” - then you have free time to wander the narrow streets and arcades and select from one of the many restaurants offering local and European menus. Afternoon return to Seefeld. The evening is free for you to explore the village and find a nice restaurant, or stay and eat in the hotel. (B)
Day 12 Seefeld at leisure
Sleep in, take a walk (there are over 250kms of walking trails), take a bike ride, visit the Olympia Centre and use the indoor/outdoor swimming pool, take a carriage ride to the Wildmoos Alm hut for a hearty meal, take a train/cable car to the Rosshuette for spectacular views of Austria and Germany. Your Tour Manager will have lots of suggestions for you to do. Tonight you will have the evening meal in the hotel’s restaurant. (B,D)
Day 12 Seefeld - Linderhof - Neuschwanstein - Munich (225 kms)
This morning we venture into Bavarian Germany to visit the ornate palace of Linderhof - built by “mad” King Ludwig of Bavaria. A short guided tour will show you all the apartments with their delicate and sometimes bizarre decorations. Then it’s on to another of the castles built by the king - Neuschwanstein, and the castle where he grew up - Hohenschwangau. Time here for lunch and optional visits to the castles before continuing to the Bavarian capital Munich. After check-in at your hotel, the Tour Manager will take you to the Hofbrauhaus for a farewell dinner. (B,D)
Day 13 Munich - End of Tour
The tour will end after breakfast. Your Tour Manager can assist with rail or coach connections to the airport. Those staying on in Munich can take one of the many city sightseeing services available. (B)
